Not-for-profits
Bookkeeping and filings for not-for-profit organizations.
Volunteer boards change, treasurers move on, and filings slip. Cayde brings not-for-profit records back into order and keeps them there, so the board can focus on the mission instead of the paperwork.
What we handle for not-for-profits
- Catch-up bookkeeping for missed years
- Financial statements for the board and AGM
- Required annual returns, such as the T2 or the T1044 information return
- Grant and restricted-fund tracking
- Payroll for staff
- Monthly bookkeeping between treasurers
Continuity
Books that survive a board change.
Keeping the records in the cloud, with a firm rather than a single volunteer, means the next treasurer inherits books that balance.

Does our organization have to file a tax return?
It depends on what kind of organization you are. Registered charities file the T3010 within six months of year-end. Incorporated non-profits file a T2 every year. Non-profits may also need the T1044 information return if they had more than $10,000 of investment income, more than $200,000 in assets, or filed one before.
We missed several years of filings. Can you help?
Yes. The books are rebuilt for each missing year and the returns are prepared in order. For a registered charity, the T3010 comes first, because CRA can revoke registration for failing to file it.
Do we need an audit?
Only if your bylaws, funders or incorporating legislation require one. Audits and review engagements must be done by a licensed public accountant, and books that are already reconciled make either one faster and less expensive.
How a catch-up works
Four stages. Nothing starts without your sign-off.
-
Talk it through
On your free assessment you tell us what’s outstanding — T2s, GST/HST, payroll, bookkeeping — and what CRA has sent, and we explain how we’d get you caught up.
-
Confirm the scope
You receive a written proposal covering the scope, pricing, terms, the records we’ll need, and a timeline. Work begins once you approve it, with a 50% deposit.
-
Complete the catch-up
The books are rebuilt from bank and card statements, oldest year first, and every outstanding return is prepared and filed. If the scope changes materially, we talk before going further.
-
Stay current
Once you’re caught up, monthly bookkeeping keeps you there. It’s month to month, and you can cancel with 30 days’ notice.

Very thorough and he patiently helped me understand what I need with my business not just with my tax but with my accounting needs as well.
