Professionals & consultants
For professional corporations and incorporated consultants.
Consultants, IT contractors and professional corporations usually incorporate for good reasons, then fall behind on the corporate side: the T2, the GST/HST, the shareholder loan. Cayde puts it right and keeps it that way.
What we handle for professionals
- Catch-up filing for missed years
- T2 returns and year-end statements
- GST/HST registration and returns
- Salary and dividend planning
- Shareholder loan clean-up
- Income tax filings for owners, as an add-on
Next step
Get paid the right way.
Once the filings are current, the next decision that matters is how you pay yourself.

Do I need to register for GST/HST as a consultant?
Once your taxable revenue passes $30,000 in a single calendar quarter, or over four consecutive quarters, yes. Some professional services, such as most health care services, are exempt, so the answer depends on what you provide.
Is incorporating worth it for a consultant?
It usually pays off when you earn more than you need to live on, so income can stay in the corporation at the small business rate. Be aware that if the corporation is really one person working like an employee for one client, CRA can treat it as a personal services business, which loses the small business rate.
Do you work with real estate agents?
Yes. Manitoba registrants have been able to incorporate as a personal real estate corporation since January 1, 2022. Our PREC guide covers when it’s worth it.
How a catch-up works
Four stages. Nothing starts without your sign-off.
-
Talk it through
On your free assessment you tell us what’s outstanding — T2s, GST/HST, payroll, bookkeeping — and what CRA has sent, and we explain how we’d get you caught up.
-
Confirm the scope
You receive a written proposal covering the scope, pricing, terms, the records we’ll need, and a timeline. Work begins once you approve it, with a 50% deposit.
-
Complete the catch-up
The books are rebuilt from bank and card statements, oldest year first, and every outstanding return is prepared and filed. If the scope changes materially, we talk before going further.
-
Stay current
Once you’re caught up, monthly bookkeeping keeps you there. It’s month to month, and you can cancel with 30 days’ notice.

Amazing service! It’s my first time working with Brian and since the time we first talked I knew I’m with the right hands. He made sure that he is able to understand my situation and my business to ensure that he is able to give me the proper support and advice. Very thorough and he patiently helped me understand what I need with my business not just with my tax but with my accounting needs as well.
